The Art of Possibility Practical Book Review. Supporting Idea #7 - Accept everything as is
Continuing with my own review of the supporting ideas described in the Art of Possibility, this week's supporting idea is the #7. Accept everything as is
Analyzing this idea from a professional perspective ( and even more if you work on a sales role), the execution of this supporting idea could be the difference between an average performance and the high performance. Many studies state that most of us use to invest 80% of our time performing, 20% of the activities that we should be doing, because we tend to procrastinate the relevant and complicated ones.
And actually, to reinforce this improperly prioritizing method, we generate self-arguments based on the guilt and guiltiness principle that consist on delegate to other (people and facts) our lack of resources to perform our daily tasks. To be more specific, this arguments use to be the complaints and "but" sentences that we repeat daily when we are referring to the tasks and objectives that we define and are imposed.
To counteract this behavior, this supporting idea suggest to eradicate this complaints of our daily speech by accepting (and in some cases, being thankful for) the context and situations related with our reality. Accepting our reality as is, open the possibility of identifying the opportunities and improvements that we can complement over our context and situations instead of ignoring and repressing them because they are not as we were expecting.
Beyond that, this supporting idea is a significant source of satisfaction and happiness as it eliminates the resignation (caused when we observe things on a negative perspective) while it promotes the construction of new ideas oriented to created improvement and growth opportunities in every context of our lives.
So.. How to start? : Counting the "But" sentences.
As I mentioned, one common practice or our daily routine consist on say or think in sentences that start with the word "but". When this happens, try to take awareness of it and keep the count of how many of this sentences you use daily. The ideal would be to have none or a few of this sentences and thoughts and if case of the existence of one, it should be supported with a concrete improvement proposal (in any other case is a negative sentence without any sense of contribution)
